105th Grey Cup – Top 5 Prop Bet Picks

Gilles Gallant's picture

The 105th Grey Cup will kick off on Sunday and while many fans will be paying attention to the actual result of the game, what about all the games within the game? Similar to the Super Bowl, online sportsbooks offer a variety of prop bets for the Grey Cup and here are my top five favorite prop picks for the CFL championship.

Team to score First

PICK – Stampeders (-165)

The Calgary Stampeders opened as the -165 favorites on Bovada and while the juice isn’t great, it may be close to a lock. Toronto has only scored first in two of its last seven games and Calgary was the second-highest scoring team in the league. The Stamps also have scored first in four of their last five games and will look to clamp down on Toronto’s offense as they only allowed 19.8 points per game.

Most Outstanding Player

PICK – Bo Levi Mitchell (+175)

Bo Levi Mitchell is top pick and when picking an MOP, bettors should always default to a quarterback. Signal-callers have won the award in three straight years and with Calgary coming in as a favorite, bettors should heavily consider the Stamps quarterback. If Toronto backers think the Argonauts will come through with the upset, look no further than longtime CFL quarterback Ricky Ray at +250. The 38-year-old QB last won the award in 2005 with the Eskimos.

Total Rushing Yards – Over 65.5 - Jerome Messam

PICK – OVER (-115)

The Stampeders running back could have a big day against Toronto. Messam to get 66 rushing yards would be a great pick at -115 as he averaged 4.7 yards per carry during the regular season and the Argonauts allowed over 83 yards per game on the ground. If Calgary gets a big lead (which is likely), look for them to bleed the clock and keep the Argos defense on the field.

Total Score – 53.5 O/U

PICK – OVER (-110)

Placing a wager for the total to go OVER in a CFL game is like expecting the sun to come out each day. You’re shocked when it doesn’t happen. Both of these teams averaged over 28 points per game this season and in the Grey Cup, the total has exceeded 53 points in four of the last six years.

Total Interceptions Thrown – Bo Levi Mitchell

PICK – OVER 1/2 (+110)

This is a sneaky one I like if the Argonauts can get to Mitchell. The Stamps quarterback threw 11 interceptions during the regular season and with the juice at +110, it’s hard to figure the Calgary signal-caller will play mistake-free football. Another stat to support the OVER is the Argonauts were second in the league in sacks, which means they know how to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
