Tour Championship Odds & Betting Preview

It’s all come down to this. The last tournament of the 2016-17 PGA Tour season, the Tour Championship, is here, and golf bettors around the world are preparing for an exciting end to the FedExCup playoffs where a new champion will be crowned at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

When it comes to betting odds, Jordan Spieth is the undisputed favorite at +500. Dustin Johnson (+800), Rickie Fowler (+1000), Justin Thomas (+1200), Jon Rahm (+1200), Jason Day (+1200), Justin Rose (+1200), Marc Leishman (+1800), Hideki Matsuyama (+2000) and Paul Casey (+2000) round out the 10 golfers with the likeliest chances to take home the hardware at the shop.

While there is a fantastic $10-million bonus on the line for winning the Tour Championship, the top five seeds of Spieth, Thomas, Johnson, Leishman and Rahm only have to win the tournament to capture the FedExCup.

Only 30 men will be in the field at the Tour Championship, but the points are reset with everyone having a mathematical chance of claiming the crown. Rory McIlroy went all the way here a year ago to collect his second playoff win in three weeks, going four extra holes to survive a finish over Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell. With McIlroy getting cut earlier in the postseason, it’s the eighth time in 10 years that the reigning FedExCup champ hasn’t even made the tournament.

East Lake Golf Club is a 7,385-yard par 70 that opened in 1908. The course has been the annual host of the Tour Championship since 2004.

It’s worth noting that each of the past seven FedExCup champions has done so by winning the Tour Championship. The only man who didn’t was Tiger Woods, who won in 2009 but finished as the runner-up to Phil Mickelson in 2010.
