Odds on the Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson $10-Million Heads-Up Match

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson of the United States talk during a practice round prior to the start of the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 3, 2018 in Augusta, Georgia.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are two of the most famous golfers to ever swing a club, and now the longtime rivals are in negotiations to play a winner-take-all exhibition match for $10 million. Odds are out on which man will emerge triumphant, with Woods listed as the -125 favorite and Mickelson coming back as the +105 underdog.

Emirates Golf Club is the +275 favorite to host the match.

The one-on-one battle has been rumored since May, but it looks like things are heating up now. When the duo were grouped for the first two rounds of the Players Championship in May, Mickelson suggested they “skip the ancillary stuff of a tournament and just go head-to-head and have kind of a high-stakes, winner-take-all match.” Woods later responded by saying “I’m definitely not against that. We’ll play for whatever makes him uncomfortable.”

Where will the event take place?

As well as the chances on who will win, BetOnline has also released odds on which golf course will host it and whether it’s going to happen this year. In terms of the course, Emirates Golf Club is the +275 front-runner, with Torrey Pines (+300), TPC Sawgrass (+450) and the PGA West Stadium Course (+450) the other likeliest tracks. The shop clearly believes it’s going to take place this year, as the odds on it happening in 2018 sit at -280.

Woods and Mickelson’s rivalry is well documented and has been contentious at many points in their careers, but the pair have clearly warmed up to each other in recent years. The men have been operating as permanent members in a Ryder Cup committee to provide the American contingent stability for years to come, and Mickelson was very supportive of his peer in Eldrick’s recent return from numerous injuries.

While Woods and Mickelson have seemingly mended fences and are on good terms these days, the drama, bragging rights and extremely high stakes of the one-on-one match will be unlike anything the golfing world has ever seen before. Who do you think is going to win? Have your say in the comments.
