Cubs have been profitable lately as favorites

The Chicago Cubs will look to rebound in San Francisco when they face the Giants in the second game of a three-game series tonight. The Cubs got edged 2-1 last night and have lost eight of their last 10 road games. They’ll send lefty Jose Quintana to the mound and when he gets the nod, the Cubs have been fairly successful as they’ve gone 5-2 SU and ATS in his last seven starts. Chicago opened as slight favorites to get back in the win column at AT&T Park.

  • The favored team is 26-5 SU in its last 31 games in this matchup.
  • The Giants are 10-3 SU in their last 13 games at home vs teams with winning records.
  • The OVER has hit in 11 of the Giants' last 15 games with Johnny Cueto starting.

Pitching Matchup Favors the Cubs

The Cubs have Jose Quintana on the bump for this contest and Chicago has been fairly successful when he pitches at 11-6 SU in his 17 outings. Quintana sports a tidy 3.40 ERA in 10 road appearances this season and the Cubs have been victorious in five of his last seven starts. The main knock on him though is that in his career vs San Fran, he’s gotten roughed up in three starts with a 5.82 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.

In the other dugout, the Giants will try to get Johnny Cueto back up to speed after a long DL stint. This is only the second start for Cueto since returning from an elbow injury and in his first outing against the Cardinals, he got roughed up by allowing five earned runs on 10 hits. Prior to the elbow injury, the righty was sensational with a 0.84 ERA in five starts and the Giants were 4-1 SU and ATS in those games. Due to the fickle nature of elbow injuries and how shaky Cueto looked last week, the Giants can’t be trusted yet with the right-hander on the mound.

Will Cubs Dominate as Betting Favorites?

The Chicago Cubs may still be chasing the Brewers for the NL Central lead but when oddsmakers tab them as a favorite, they’ve been cashing in for bettors. The Cubbies are 7-1 SU in their last eight games as a fave and the favored team is 26-5 SU in the last 31 games in this matchup.

However, the Giants are taking care of business at AT&T Park, winning 17 of their last 23 games at home. San Francisco has also been a fairly reliable wager lately when the big dogs come to town as the Giants are 10-3 SU and ATS in their last 13 home games vs teams with winning records.

Totals Bettors Should Eye the OVER

The total opened at 7.5 and bettors may want to consider the OVER in this tilt. The OVER has hit in eight of the Cubs' last 11 games against right-handed starting pitchers with an average combined score of 10.2 runs per game. When you factor in that the OVER has hit in 11 of the Giants' last 15 games with Johnny Cueto starting, it could be a scorefest on the West coast.
