Eriksen’s Danes Meet Peru In A Potential Table-Setting Group C Contest

Peru vs Denmark is offering bettors some great value with plus-money opportunities on either side. The 2018 World Cup destiny of both squads will most certainly be decided in their Group C opener if either should take the full three points here. In all likelihood, both the Danes and the Peruvians will beat the Aussies and lose to the French in group play and if that were to happen, the outcome of this match would decide which club finishes second and moves on to the Round of 16.

Online shop Bovada currently has Denmark as the favorite in moneyline markets at +140 with Peru coming back at +210 and the draw sitting at +225. As far as totals are concerned, OVER 2 is priced at -150 while UNDER is sitting at +125.

SHARK BITES
  • Peru averaged 1.4 goals per game in World Cup qualifiers.
  • Denmark averaged 2 goals per game in World Cup qualifiers.
  • Denmark is undefeated in its last 9 World Cup qualifiers.

The Danes are a physically imposing outfit and feature some extremely skilled players, most notably Christian Eriksen. The Tottenham superstar will be the central cog in the Danish system, but questions lie around who will be able to capitalize on his playmaking prowess. They have some exciting young strikers, but none stood out as go-to finishers in qualification as 12 of their 20 goals came from midfielders: Eriksen (8) and Thomas Delaney (4).

Peru clawed its way into a spot in Russia, earning a playoff spot thanks to a draw with Colombia, and Brazil putting a beatdown on Chile on the last matchday of South American qualification. Just recently they were scrambling to figure out how to be competitive without their leading scorer, Paolo Guerrero, who was penalized for doping but was subsequently given a reprieve ensuring his presence in Russia. All of this, combined with an impressive 3-0 win in friendly competition over Saudi Arabia that provided some world-class goals, has them beginning to feel like a team of destiny.

I still believe the Danes are the superior XI in this fixture, but their inability to tally with consistency makes me wary. The Peruvians proved they can play with the best as they drew with Argentina twice and beat Uruguay in qualification. I think we may have found a dark horse here.

Denmark looks like the easy pick here, and I wouldn’t balk at that value but I’ll be playing the dog. The price on Peru feels like a gift anywhere in the +200 range.
